Acupuncture pain relief without drugs:
the natural alternative pain relief technique for your pain

Clinical trials have proven that acupuncture is effective in getting pain relief. So let's begin by understanding why we suffer from pain.

Pain arise from injury, accident, overwork or from a large number of physical ailments such as arthritis, cancer, overstrain or from emotional distress. It can cause stomach pain, neck pain, back pain, headaches, spine and rib pain or shoulder, elbow and wrist pain.

Pain can also be felt in the internal organs, causing headaches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue or abdominal pain.

So pain from the joints or muscles is not always exclusively due to a musculo-skeletal problem.

Irrespective of the cause, pain limits the activities of daily life. It can immobilise you or prevent your ability to function. However, pain can be a good thing, in the sense that it is nature’s way of protecting your body from potential tissue damage. It serves as a warning signal, telling you that something is wrong and that you need treatment. Hence, pain is a way of preventing severe injury.

Treatment of pain and other illnesses by medical drugs have become less effective for some people, their bodies have been weakened by adverse side effects and painkillers are no longer as safe or effective as once thought.

It is well documented that patients who have taken excessive amounts of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) now suffer from serious gastro-intestinal disorders. And we also know that these NSAIDs can severely threaten life.

It has been found that acupuncture is very effective for pain relief. As a natural alternative pain relief technique without drugs or side effects, acupuncture has been shown to be very effective for the control, management and relief of pain.

However, pain in the muscles and joints are common complaints of patients seeking help. Of these, backache or back pain is the most common and widespread disorder of the musculo-skeletal system.

Neck pain is also common. Most often, neck pain is the result of trauma, such as from a car accident, whiplash or diving accidents.

Broadly, soft tissue injuries is the most general complaint where the symptoms are pain, swelling and dysfunction are present. In the initial stage of an injury, you can encounter severe pain, rapid local swelling with dysfunction of the area involved.

If you leave the injury untreated, the swelling and pain can gradually subside. The colour of the purpura can also change over time. Dysfunction can be partial but you still will not be able to perform your daily activities freely, without pain or discomfort. So treatment is recommended.

What information should you tell your acupuncturist when you visit the doctor?

It is important for you to know your health history because health history is especially important in helping your acupuncturist make a correct assessment.

You may not think your health history is important but it is. Other symptoms that trouble you will help in the overall diagnosis. For example, if you visit your acupuncturist for pain in the joints and you think you are getting over a recent high fever and chills, it could suggest an infectious cause of your joint pain.

So it is a good idea to think it through before your appointment, perhaps write down your health history first.

Precise information will be helpful. Your acupuncture doctor will need to know if your pain is localised or whether it is widespread, and whether your pain is acute or chronic. Your acupuncturist will need to determine whether your pain is of an inflammatory type or non-inflammatory type.
